Cores
Cores is Cambria’s 2nd NFT collection and onchain asset, minting on December 20th, 2024. Cores are a collection of 10,000 Factory NFTs that allow players to directly own the issuance of new in-game Companions ("pets"), Skins (cosmetics), Lootboxes, and other high-demand items.
Player-Owned Generation ⚡
Instead of the traditional web2 microtransactions model where the game studio sells their players skins, pets, and other cosmetics, we're flipping the power dynamic by giving Cores holders control over the creation of new assets. Cores allow players to earn various Shards (Companion / Skin / ???) that can be burned to mint new Companions and Skins. For Skins and other cosmetics, Core holders decide which limited time Skins to spend their Shards on as they release, creating a higher-level layer of competitive curation (UGC) driven by in-game supply and demand.
As a studio, Cambria earns revenue from royalties from the trading volume of the resulting assets to fund game development and ecosystem expansion, which we believe aligns incentives in the shared interest of growing and improving not only the game itself, but also the depth of the (optional & player-driven) skins & collectibles trading gameplay.
What are Cores? 🏵️
Cambria Cores are dense crucibles of magical construction collected by the Magus Association that convert the ethereal energies pulsating through New Cambria into Shards. Cores can be roughly graded into 4 tiers:
- Normal Core (T1) - 80% of supply
- Enhanced Core (T2) - 15%
- Mystic Core (T3) - 4%
- Arcane Core (T4) - 1%
Once revealed, Cores can actively used by players in game to generate shards at a rate based on the total number of Cores held, and the Core tier. Cores will reveal 1 week after mint.
What are Shards? 💎
Shards are the primary resource that can be burned to summon new Companions as well as mint new Skins. Shards are associated with a wallet and any earned Shards are kept even if Cores are un-staked or transferred. Shards are soulbound and cannot be sold or transferred. There are currently 2 types of Shards - Cores generate both Shards types when staked.
- Companion Shards
- Skin Shards
Cambria Companions 🐶
Companions are intelligent and adaptive followers with unique in-game convenience utility (bank space, automated tasks, Focus point regen, etc). Companions are NFTs that can be traded. Companions start off with 6 main archetypes (Human, Feline, Avian, Griffin, Wyvern, Gargoyle). Each Companion Archetype has a Rarity Index, which determines the likelihood of certain archetypes being summoned.
Companions (self and others) can be hidden via display settings in game, and do not have to follow the player for their benefits to be active (you can leave your pets on your Island).

Companion Summoning 🪄
The only way that new Companions can be created is Companion Summoning. Cores holder can spend their Shards to summon a random Companion which is then directly minted to the Companions NFT collection. They can then trade that Companion on the secondary market with other players. Companions are viewable both in game, as well as on the player’s profile on Cambria web / mobile app. All future ecosystem extensions will also offer integrations into Companions.
Companion summoning costs (in Shards) utilize realtime Dynamic Pricing with Variable Rate Gradual Dutch Auctions (VRGDAs) to issue new companions at a price that starts high and decreases over time in an attempt to roughly match the growth of the game itself. In other words, Companion Shard costs gradually decrease over time allowing players to mint more Companions from the same amount of Cores, as more relative demand for companions from new players necessitates higher productivity from Cores.
VGRDA are also adaptive to demand (vs a GDA), increasing or decreasing prices in real time based on whether sales are ahead or behind the current schedule. To prevent extended supply shocks (from significant spikes in companion demand) from impacting game growth or balance, we may further adjust the VGRDA rate to balance the game. In the future, game design adjustments like this VRGDA rate will be controlled via decentralized governance and require proposals that implement rate adjustment caps, cooling-off periods, etc. to pass.
Skins (Cosmetics) 🎨
Skins are released via two mechanisms:
- Lootbox Collections - Lootboxes are earned in game and unlockable using Keys
- Limited Edition releases - can be purchased on a bonding curve using Shards (fixed supply)
Keys can be minted at a fixed cost, and contribute to a shared pool, randomly won by Shard holders based on holdings. This creates a metagame for Shard utilization where players decide to either hoard their Shards or use them to mint limited edition Skins they particularly like, which can be traded or collected.
Skins will only apply to Companions in v1, but expansions to this collection (equipment, weapons, emotes, stickers, animation / fx replacers, etc.) will be added in a follow-on release. Holding higher-tier Cores (T2-T4) additionally unlocks the ability to access a rare Skin pool that is otherwise inaccessible via other Skin earning methods.
Collectors can unlock Badges and other collectibles based on their collections. Collectors also have a Collector Score on their lifetime Shard spending that gives them voting privileges on a player committee for voting on new community collections that may be released.
Skins are cosmetic-only and do not provide any financial advantage.
Airdrop 🪂
Using Shards in game and accumulating Shards will increase a variety of player scores in game that are a bonus factor in the Cambria airdrop. These scores are further extended with various Founder Scroll entries.

Soulbound Shards. Shards are non-transferable, in-game resources that can only be used for summoning Companions, minting Skins, or similar gameplay functions. Shards cannot be bought, sold, or traded for monetary gain. The primary purpose of Shards is to enable player progression and customization within the Cambria ecosystem.
Player-Driven Secondary Markets. The ability to trade Companions, Skins, or other minted assets is a player-driven activity that occurs entirely between players. Trading activity is optional and serves as an emergent layer of player interaction, not a core feature or financial incentive of Cambria Cores.
Gameplay Balancing and Adjustments. Dynamic pricing mechanisms, including Variable Rate Gradual Dutch Auctions (VRGDAs), are implemented strictly for gameplay balance to align in-game asset creation with player growth and demand. Any adjustments to these systems prior to decentralization are made for game design purposes only and are not intended to influence asset value outside of gameplay utility .Future governance of dynamic pricing adjustments will transition to a player-led decentralized governance model, subject to transparency, proposals, and safeguards for player-determination of game design.
No Shared Revenue or Profit Model. Cambria earns revenue through royalties on secondary market transactions of in-game assets. These royalties are used to fund game development, ongoing ecosystem expansion, and infrastructure costs. Cores holders do not receive any share of this revenue. Cambria royalties are not a shared profit model or revenue-sharing mechanism.
Rarity and Non-Balance Impact. Companion archetypes and their Rarity Index are cosmetic or preference-based and do not impact game balance. Rarity is included to enhance the aesthetic variety and immersion of the Cambria experience. Rarity should not be interpreted as a financial indicator or guarantee of value.
Regulatory Compliance. Cambria and its associated assets, including Cores, Companions, Skins, Founders, and in-game items, are designed as utility-focused gameplay features and are not financial instruments, investments, or securities. Cambria complies with applicable laws and regulations and will continue to adapt its systems to maintain compliance.
